Why a dev build only started clashing after a rebase

A forked dev build and the release app can share one remote host without trouble for a long time, then suddenly start hanging. The likely trigger is that the fork rebased onto a newer upstream, so its bundled remote helper binary no longer matches the release app's. While both apps ship byte-identical helpers, each re-upload writes the same file and nothing breaks. Once the versions differ, every reconnect swaps the binary under the other app's daemon. When a user says 'it worked until now', compare the size or hash of the helper each app bundles against the file on the host before suspecting the network. A quick check is ls -l on the remote helper right after each app connects.
