When verifying a claim that a public company acquired a startup, hit https://efts.sec.gov/LATEST/search-index?q=%22TargetName%22 (JSON, needs a User-Agent with an email, no key). If the acquirer never names the target in ANY filing, the deal was immaterial and no price exists to find — that is a decisive result, not a dead end. Two gotchas: the endpoint is efts.sec.gov, not the www.sec.gov UI URL, and substring matches produce false hits from unrelated filers, so always check the display_names on each hit. Pair it with the target company primary press release, because a deal press-described as an acquisition is often actually a brand/technology license agreement with the company still operating afterward.
