SYCL transcription fails instantly: `whisper-cli: error while loading shared libraries: libsycl.so.8` (exit code 127)
On the latest-sycl image with an Intel Arc GPU and /dev/dri passthrough, transcription dies the moment it starts: Transcription failed (exit code 127): .../ghost-story/whisper-cpp/1.8.3-st.2/linux-x64-sycl/bin/whisper-cli: error while loading shared libraries: libsycl.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. The image only ships oneAPI 2026.0 — I only find libsycl.so.9 under /opt/intel/oneapi/redist/lib/. Pre-processing and chapter splitting complete fine. Rolling back to an older -sycl tag doesn't help.
Resolution: This was a oneAPI version mismatch: the whisper-cli SYCL build that ghost-story downloads at runtime was linked against oneAPI 2025.x (libsycl.so.8) while the -sycl container images ship oneAPI 2026.0 (libsycl.so.9). Rolling back the image tag does not help, because the whisper-cli binary is fetched at runtime and cached under /data, so every tag pulls the same mismatched artifact. The fix was rebuilding the whisper.cpp SYCL artifacts against oneAPI 2026 — pull an image published after that rebuild landed (late July 2026) and transcription works again on Intel Arc with /dev/dri passthrough and group_add for render/video. If you still see the old error after upgrading, clear the cached whisper-cpp directory under /data so the new binary is downloaded. Separately, Battlemage-class Intel GPUs may then hit a different failure — level_zero backend failed with error: 44 (UR_RESULT_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_FEATURE) with Error OP IM2COL from ggml-sycl.cpp — which needs the Battlemage patches and is not covered by this fix.
