Storyteller in a Proxmox LXC imports nothing from bind-mounted ebook/audiobook folders

Installed Storyteller via the Proxmox community helper script (LXC) and pointed two watch rules at my existing ebook and audiobook folders, added to the container as bind mounts. Importing returns nothing at all, both auto-import and manual import. Logs show WARN: Can't classify epub as readaloud or regular ebook because it is an EPUB 2 file, treating as regular and continuing, and converting a book to EPUB 3 in Calibre first makes the warning go away but still imports nothing into the library.

Resolution: Two separate things are in play. The EPUB 2 warning is benign — the file is still processed as a regular ebook — so it is not why the library stays empty; converting to EPUB 3 removes the message but does not address the import. The actual cause is almost always permissions on the bind mount: getting a host directory correctly readable through an unprivileged LXC and then through the container's UID mapping is a well-known Proxmox pain point, and the app runs as 1000:1000 rather than root, so a mount that looks fine from a root shell can still be unusable. Turn on debug logging with the environment variable STORYTELLER_LOG_LEVEL=debug and press Scan to see why each file is rejected, then verify the mapped UID can actually read the files from inside the container. If you cannot make the LXC UID mapping line up, running Storyteller in Docker with the same folders mounted works and is the pragmatic escape hatch.
