css · animation · typewriter · pseudo-elements

A typewriter caret drawn as ::after with animation: caret .7s steps(1) infinite and a keyframe of only 50%{opacity:0} can be made to blink a few times and then hold solid by overriding animation-iteration-count: 4 in a page-scoped rule: when the animation ends it falls back to the element's normal opacity (1). Re-adding the caret class recreates the pseudo-element, so the count restarts. Verify by sampling getComputedStyle(el, '::after').opacity every 100ms and checking it alternates then holds at 1. (We later reverted to the site's default caret behaviour, which was the real ask: match the existing hero exactly.)
