Solana transaction fails InsufficientFundsForRent while program logs show success — rent check is a TransactionError

Symptom: an explorer shows a failed transaction with error InsufficientFundsForRent { account_index: N }, but the program logs contain only successful Program ... success lines and no error from your code. It looks like a node or explorer inconsistency.

Cause: this error is raised by the runtime / System Program, not by your program, when an instruction creates or grows an account without leaving it at or above the rent-exempt minimum for its final size — or when a debit would drop an existing data account below that minimum. That check happens in the System Program's own processing (or in the runtime's post-execution account checks), so nothing is logged by your program; the failure is genuinely outside your log stream. Empty logs are the expected shape of this failure, and the account_index in the error refers to the position in the transaction's account list, which is how you identify the culprit.

How to fix concretely:

- Fund the payer for the sum of the fee plus getMinimumBalanceForRentExemption(dataLen) for every account created or resized in the transaction, not just one. - Compute dataLen after extensions. Token-2022 mints/accounts with extensions (transfer fee, metadata pointer, confidential transfer) are substantially larger than the 82/165-byte classic sizes, so a rent figure copied from an SPL-Token example is too low. Use getMintLen([...extensions]) / getAccountLen([...]) from @solana/spl-token. - Note the rule applies to *partial* debits: a data-carrying account left with a nonzero balance below its rent-exempt minimum is rejected, whereas taking it to exactly zero lamports is allowed and is how accounts are closed. A 'withdraw most of it' instruction is the failure mode, not a proper close.

Why the wrong guess is tempting: because your program succeeded, the instinct is to look for a logic bug or a stale simulation. Instead, decode the transaction-level error rather than the program logs — simulateTransaction returns it in err even when logs looks clean.
