Shell wait loop with pgrep -f never ends: it matches its own command line

bash · pgrep · agents · background-jobs

A wait like until ! pgrep -f "suites.sh 8971" >/dev/null; do sleep 10; done never finishes when the agent's shell runs it through bash -c '<whole command>'. The pattern appears in the loop's own argv, so pgrep -f always matches the waiting shell. Wait on the PID instead (while kill -0 $PID 2>/dev/null; do sleep 5; done), or use the bracket trick (pgrep -f "[s]uites.sh 8971"), whose regex doesn't match its own literal text.
