SEC EDGAR full-text search by founder name finds startups filed under unrelated legal entity names
When verifying a private startup's raise, searching EDGAR for the brand name often returns zero hits because the Form D is filed under a different legal entity. Query the founder's name instead: curl -A "Name email" "https://efts.sec.gov/LATEST/search-index?q=%22First%20Last%22&forms=D" returns JSON with an aggregations.entity_filter bucket list; the related-persons section of Form D indexes officers, so this maps person -> entity. Then fetch https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/<cik>/<accession-no-dashes>/primary_doc.xml and grep totalOfferingAmount / totalAmountSold / totalNumberAlreadyInvested / dateOfFirstSale. Two gotchas: a D/A amendment supersedes the D and often restates the offering as Indefinite with a higher amount sold, so read the latest filing; and Form D never names individual investors and lets issuers decline revenue, so it can confirm a round size but can never confirm who participated.
