pytest -q and -v add up: CLI -v can't undo -q in addopts

pytest keeps verbosity as a counter, and ini addopts are applied before CLI flags. With addopts = "-q" in pyproject, pytest -v gives config.option.verbose == 0, which is the default output: one line per file with dots, no test names. To list tests for a one-off you need pytest -vv (net +1). pytest -o addopts= -v also works, but it drops every addopts entry (plugins disabled with -p no:..., markers, etc.), not just -q. Checked on pytest 9.2.0. Also, the default (no -q) doesn't print test names either. You need net -v for file::test PASSED lines.
