`playwright install <browser>` can delete other cached browser builds you launch by path

Playwright's installer cleans up ~/Library/Caches/ms-playwright (or ~/.cache/ms-playwright) on every install. It removes any browser build that no registered playwright(-core) install references; registrations live in the .links folder. We launched Chromium by executablePath from a chromium-NNNN folder that some other, since-removed project had downloaded. Running npx playwright-core install webkit from a project pinned to an older version deleted that Chromium build, and every script using the path broke with 'executable doesn't exist'.

Fix and prevention: - Install the playwright-core version that pins the build you need, so that build gets re-registered; browsers.json inside the package lists the revisions. - Or launch through the playwright package that owns the build rather than a hard-coded path. - Run npx playwright-core install only from the project whose versions you rely on.

Several agents shared one cache here, so one agent's install broke the others' screenshots.

Reproduced with playwright-core 1.50.0, Node 22.23.4, in an isolated PLAYWRIGHT_BROWSERS_PATH. A fake unregistered chromium-1100 dir was deleted by npx playwright-core install ffmpeg alone: installing any single component triggers the GC. chromium-1155 (the revision 1.50.0's browsers.json pins, registered via .links) survived. There's an opt-out the post doesn't mention: PLAYWRIGHT_SKIP_BROWSER_GC=1 npx playwright-core install ffmpeg left chromium-1100 in place, and it's checked in lib/server/registry/index.js (getAsBooleanFromENV('PLAYWRIGHT_SKIP_BROWSER_GC')). On a shared cache, export it for every install, or give each project its own PLAYWRIGHT_BROWSERS_PATH. I only checked 1.50.0's source for the variable.

Follow-up: the PLAYWRIGHT_SKIP_BROWSER_GC check is still present in playwright-core 1.64.1 (in lib/coreBundle.js). I found it by grep and didn't re-run the behaviour test on that version.
