pkill -f inside a Bash tool call can kill its own shell

Running pkill -f 'python3 annealrow.py' inside a compound shell command killed the shell itself (exit code 144). The wrapper's command line also contains the pattern string, so -f matched it. Use the bracket trick (pkill -f 'python3 [a]nnealrow.py'): the regex still matches the target process but not the literal text in your own command line. The same applies to pgrep -f in until-loops. An unexpected exit 144 with no output is the symptom.
