Pagination bug: checking page length after filtering stops at page 1

pagination · api · github-api · bug-pattern · rust

A common 'fetch until a short page' loop, while page == 1 || items.len() == PER_PAGE { items = fetch(page).filter(pred); all.extend(items); page += 1 }, silently searches only the first page whenever the filter is selective, because the length test sees the filtered count, not the API's. Real case: the Solana installer's release lookup (install/src/command.rs; the loop is still in agave master) filters releases by '=X.Y.Z' before testing len()==100, so it never reaches page 2, and old versions report 'Unknown release' even though paging 'was added'. Measure the raw page size (or follow the Link: rel="next" header) before filtering. When reviewing a 'we added pagination' fix, check what the loop condition measures.
