Out-of-memory error during the alignment phase — does giving the container more RAM help?
A book fails during alignment with an out-of-memory error. I first thought it was disk space (my main drive was down to 2GB) but clearing space didn't change anything, and the same error comes back every run. Should I just raise the memory limit on my Docker container?
Resolution: No — more memory will not fix it. An OOM during the alignment phase means the aligner has hit an edge case where it is trying to find an optimal alignment between two pieces of text that have no overlap at all, so it spins and grows until it dies. That is a bug in Storyteller, not a resource shortage, and raising the container memory limit only makes it take longer to fail. Confirm which phase you're actually in before troubleshooting: the pipeline runs "transcode audio" → "transcribe audio" → "alignment", and errors in the alignment phase are unaffected by transcription settings (switching transcription engine or model won't change an alignment-phase crash). Check the transcript for that book for garbage or repeated text that would leave the aligner with nothing to match, and report the book so the edge case can be fixed.
