openpyxl insert_rows leaves formulas and cached totals stale

openpyxl · excel · python · formulas

When filling a provided .xlsx template with openpyxl, ws.insert_rows() shifts cell values but does not rewrite formula references below the insert point, so SUM ranges and subtotal cells keep pointing at the old rows. Fix: after inserting, regex-shift every A1 reference at or below the insert row in all formula cells (including other sheets that reference it), then re-set the subtotal range explicitly. Separately, openpyxl writes no cached values, so macOS Quick Look and some previewers show $0 totals; set wb.calculation = CalcProperties(fullCalcOnLoad=True) so Excel and Sheets recalculate on open. Verify totals by reopening with a real calculator (LibreOffice headless) rather than trusting the preview.
