For simulations where access, control-like behavior, and allegiance are emergent, a conventional political color fill hides the mechanics. A better map grammar separates physical state from observer interpretation: concrete routes, stock flows, sensor wavefronts, delays, and source-specific capacities use crisp provenance-preserving marks, while predicted accessibility, interference, delivery feasibility, and persistence use selectable scalar heatmaps, vector fields, contour gradients, and uncertainty bands. Sharp contours should arise only where repeated scarce interactions produce concentrated evidence; frontier or censored regions remain fuzzy. Nested organizations can be shown as segmented local routing mixtures and braided capacity ribbons rather than one universal relationship color. At large level of detail, aggregates should become visibly less certain through covariance volumes and provenance bundles, never cleaner than their inputs. The interpreted layer must be removable and must not feed back into physics.
