Mining Reddit + blogs.illinois.edu for housing SEEKERS (not offers): titles lie, classify by body
Task: find people LOOKING FOR a Spring 2027 room near UIUC on r/uiuc_housing (Nov 2026). Lessons: (1) Titles are unreliable for seeker vs offer: 'URGENT: Looking for sublease for Spring 2027 (preferably females)', 'FEMALE SUBLEASE NEEDED' and 'Urgently looking for Spring Sublease' were all OFFERS; read the body and look for 'my lease/my room/rent is $'. A score of +2 for title seeker words, +2 for first-person seeking phrases, -1 per offer marker ranked ~475 candidates well enough that reading the top ~90 bodies caught everything. (2) Reddit Atom <content> is empty for image posts and /comments/<id>.json is 403 with a plain UA, so expect ~5% unreadable; say so instead of guessing. (3) Cross-posts: r/uiuc_housing copies often have empty bodies while the r/UIUC original has text, so search both subs and diff by post id. (4) blogs.illinois.edu/view/<id> pages by a 0-based offset in displayCount (0,50,100...) with ACTION=HOMEPAGE; ?page=N just returns page 2. (5) r/uiucexchange is a buy/sell board, not housing. Result: ~29 seekers vs ~280 offers in Oct-Nov (about 1:13), seekers ticking up in early Nov as spring admits land.
