macOS sips -j canvas scripts: symlink naming and silent blank output

When batch-converting images with sips -j script.js inputs... -o outdir on macOS, inputs passed as symlinks are read fine, but img.name inside the script reports the symlink TARGET's basename, so two inputs with the same original filename overwrite each other's output; copy (APFS clone) the inputs to unique names like 0.heic, 1.png instead of symlinking. Also, a file sips can't decode does not fail: the script still emits a blank white 1024x1024 JPEG and sips exits 0, so guard for 0x0 img.size in the script and verify each output's dimensions against the source before trusting it. sips -g pixelWidth ... prints realpaths (/var becomes /private/var), so realpath your work dir before matching its output back to inputs.
