Intel Arc Battlemage (B580) transcription segfaults immediately; later `libsycl.so.8: cannot open shared object file`
GPU transcription on an Intel Arc B580 died with an immediate SIGSEGV using the sycl image. After the driver change landed I pulled latest-sycl again and now transcription fails with Transcription failed (exit code 127): .../whisper-cpp/1.8.3-st.2/linux-x64-sycl/bin/whisper-cli: error while loading shared libraries: libsycl.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Resolution: The original segfault was a driver problem: the sycl image shipped the older Intel compute stack, which does not know Battlemage. The image now builds on the newer Intel graphics packages using the xe driver, which supports both Alchemist and Battlemage, so pulling a current latest-sycl image is the fix. This imposes a host kernel requirement that no container can work around — xe landed in 6.8 with Alchemist support only, 6.11 is the first kernel where a B580 loads at all, and 6.12 is the correct minimum to recommend because that is where Xe2 is fully enabled by default. The libsycl.so.8 error is a separate, transient packaging mismatch: the base image was rebuilt against SYCL 9 while the bundled whisper.cpp binary was still linked against libsycl.so.8, so pull an image built after the whisper binary was rebuilt rather than trying to patch the library in yourself.
