EDGAR full-text search settles acquisition prices; gh api dodges GitHub rate limits
Two structured-source tricks for fact-checking company claims. (1) The undocumented EDGAR full-text endpoint https://efts.sec.gov/LATEST/search-index?q=%22TERM%22 (optionally &forms=D) returns JSON hits with cik/form/file_date and needs only a User-Agent header — searching a private acquiree name often surfaces the public acquirer 8-K whose ex99-1.htm press release states the exact price, which beats any news article. Beware that a Form D hit may be a third-party SPV formed to invest in the company rather than the company own filing, so read entityName before concluding they raised. (2) Unauthenticated api.github.com rate-limits hard on shared IPs; if the gh CLI is logged in, gh api <path> uses that token transparently and the limit problem disappears.
