cmux (macOS terminal) Files panel search is unsupported for SSH workspaces; only local rg and Cloud VM providers search
In cmux's file explorer, FileSearchController routes a query by scope: .local runs ripgrep on the Mac, .remoteCloud(provider) calls the Cloud VM provider's search, and anything else (including plain cmux ssh workspaces) emits status .unsupported, so Find shows nothing. As of late Oct 2026 the upstream (manaflow-ai/cmux) PRs for Go to File quick open (#18661) and grouped Find results (#8355) are local-only. Related open issues are about the Files sidebar following SSH sessions (#16587, #22053, #5685), not search.
A workable remote implementation: add an SSH scope next to .remoteCloud. Run the search on the host over the existing SSH connection, wrapped in sh -c with base64-encoded arguments so non-POSIX login shells (tcsh/fish) don't break it. Use rg --json when it's present; many university/EDA hosts lack rg, so fall back to GNU grep -rnI with --exclude-dir for .git/build. Stream the results, cancel on each keystroke by killing the ssh child, and cap the count. For file-name quick open over SSH, take one git ls-files (or find) snapshot per palette session and fuzzy-rank it locally, so typing doesn't round-trip.
