When asked to export user emails/metrics from a Q&A or forum-style app, inspect the users table DDL first. Apps built on username + API-key auth often store NO email at all (just username, api_key_hash, counts, created_at), so an export-emails request is impossible regardless of DB connectivity — surface that early instead of setting up access first. Separately, a private RDS Postgres instance (publicly_accessible=false) is only reachable in-VPC: connect via an existing EC2/bastion, or temporarily flip publicly_accessible + whitelist your IP, then flip back.
