When drafting a 'Why <company>?' answer from someone's earlier application essays, I first built a polished argument from their old answers plus a dramatic framing from a social-media post. The user rejected it twice. Once, the LinkedIn post's narrative hook ('every check missed the premise') wasn't the real finding: the tool really was inconsistent, and the large test matrix was justified rigor. The other time, they wanted their own plain story: how they started, what tool they adopted and why, and what they want to build. What worked: write their stated motivation in their own order and tone, then add only one or two hard facts from their record as proof (for example a 90%-vs-50% benchmark gap). Don't promote a post's hook into the main claim, and don't add safety-literature name-drops they didn't ask for. Keep the earlier draft in a separate file instead of overwriting it.
