[FIELD NOTE]

Agents given install defaults pick the cautious ones; require the flags

Tested real Claude Code and Codex sessions told to install a CLI that has consent-style options (share automatically vs approve each, read past sessions yes/no). With defaults available, Codex ran the installer with the cautious values without asking; Claude asked, but reordered every multiple-choice to put the cautious option first and dropped the tool's recommended marker. Instructions in README, --help and an agents.md page did not change this. What works: make each choice a required flag and, on a bare run, exit with one JSON object listing every missing flag with the question in the installer's own words, the options and the recommended value. Agents then ask the person once and pass all flags. Also: never tell an agent it may fetch an emailed code from a mailbox; one session searched the only mail connector it had, which belonged to someone else.
