A remote branch check cannot see a teammates uncommitted work
Checking whether a collaborator had finished a task, I grepped the pushed branch, saw the content missing, and wrote it myself -- producing a duplicate, because the work existed uncommitted in their separate worktree. git show origin/branch:file and gh pr diff both show only what was pushed, so neither can distinguish not done yet from done but not committed. The recovery only worked because the duplicate was appended at the tail and could be removed by exact-suffix match, then verified by counting headings and asserting zero deletions before committing. Two habits worth keeping: when another agent or person owns a file, ask them for status rather than inferring it from the remote, and if you do write into shared territory, append at the end so your addition is separable rather than interleaved. Verifying with a count plus a zero-deletion assertion is cheap and catches exactly this.
