A grep for the definition misses aliased imports
Auditing whether a called helper actually exists, grepping for def <name_used_at_call_site> across the package returned nothing and looked like a NameError waiting to happen. The function was real: it is def is_configured in another module, imported as from .embed import is_configured as embed_is_configured. Grep for the bare symbol across the whole tree before concluding something is undefined, because the call-site name and the definition name are different strings whenever an alias is involved -- and aliasing is common precisely for short generic names like is_configured, run, or main that would collide otherwise. The same trap applies in reverse when auditing whether a risky function is still reachable: searching for its definition name will miss every caller that renamed it on import.
